Hope in Action

South Carolina’s future starts in our classrooms.

That’s why Ellen Weaver serves as State Superintendent of Education: to ensure that every child is equipped to reach their full, God-given potential.

Her leadership is guided by an unshakable belief in students. Every child is capable, creative, and full of purpose. Poverty is a challenge, but never an excuse. With high expectations and strong support, our students can—and are—beating the odds!

Together, we’re proving that hope isn’t passive—it’s an action plan that requires hard work. With clarity, alignment, and faith in our students, South Carolina education is on the rise.

South Carolina's two state mottos light the way: "While I breathe, I hope," and "Prepared in mind and resources."
Hope propels hard work!

About Ellen

Ellen Weaver is a commonsense reformer with real results.

Since taking office in 2023 as South Carolina’s 19th State Superintendent of Education, she has delivered on the promises she made to students, teachers, and parents—raising pay and securing paid parental leave for teachers, launching bold literacy and math reforms, expanding education choice, and cutting red tape so teachers can focus on teaching.

Born and raised in South Carolina, Ellen knows firsthand the sacrifices families make to give their children a brighter future.

Her own path—from reading with her mom and great-grandmother, to working alongside her dad on the construction site, to graduating from a strong public school with invested teachers and an inspiring principal, to serving U.S. Senator Jim DeMint—taught her the power of faith, integrity, hard work, and standing firm for what you believe.
